The Peace Silver Dollar

The obverse of the Peace Silver Dollar features a striking image of Lady Liberty. Created by sculptor Anthony de Francisci, Liberty is depicted with radiant rays crowning her head, symbolizing the dawn of a new era. She faces left, and the word "Liberty" is inscribed above her, while the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" is placed to the side. De Francisci included his initials "AF" at the base of the neck, making the Peace Dollar one of the few U.S. coins to feature its designer's initials. The reverse showcases a majestic bald eagle perched on a rock, holding an olive branch–a universal symbol of peace. The eagle is bathed in sunlight, reinforcing the theme of hope and tranquility. The word "PEACE" is prominently displayed below the eagle, and the motto "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" encircles the top. The Peace Silver Dollar was minted from 1921 to 1928, and again in 1934 and 1935. Its production was interrupted due to a hiatus in silver dollar minting. In 2021, the United States Mint issued a special 100th-anniversary edition of the Peace Silver Dollar, this time in 99.9% pure silver.
