Obsolete Bank Notes from Leumi Le'Israel, the National Bank of Israel
These bank notes were issued by the Bank Leumi, the central bank of Israel from its establishment in 1950 until 1954 when the Bank of Israel was founded. These currency notes are obsolete now and have been since 1980 when the Shekel replaced the Israeli Pound as the national currency.
The Nation Of Israel In 1952
1952 was a pivotal year for Israel. Having just been established in 1948 following World War II, the tiny country saw the election of Yitzhak Ben-Zvi to replace Israel's first president, Chaim Weizmann, who had died earlier in the year. It was an interesting race that saw Israeli officials approach German-born American theoretical physicist Albert Einstein (he of the famous E = mc2 formula) about becoming President. The developer of the theory of relativity declined, saying, "I have neither the natural ability nor the experience to deal with human beings." Ben-Zvi went on to become Israel's longest-serving president, holding the office until his death in 1963.

Each note has been graded by Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) as being in Gem Uncirculated PMG-65 PMG Exceptional Paper Quality (EPQ) condition, guaranteeing that the notes are original, and have not been physically, chemically, or materially altered to lend the appearance of a higher grade.
