2014 Israel Silver “Tel Hazor” New Shequel Proof-Like
New Shequels Pay Tribute to Israel’s World Heritage Sites
What a find! Struck by the Bank of Israel for its “UNESCO World Heritage Sites” series, these silver coins not only pay tribute to historic parts of the country designated as UNESCO heritage sites but are released with such limited mintages that it makes finding any of them very difficult. But thanks to our connections in the coin world, we’ve managed to track down a small hoard of these coins!
In this offer, you can secure the 2014 release that pays tribute to Tel Hazor. Situated north of the Sea of Galilee, Tel Hazor is the largest biblical-era archaeological site in Israel. Located in the Fertile Crescent, it maintained commercial ties with Babylon and Syria. According to the Book of Joshua, after Hazor was captured by Joshua and his army the city’s king — along with the entire population — was put to the sword and the city burned to the ground. Archaeologists have found more than three feet of charcoal and ash that confirm the biblical narrative. The coin’s design features archaeological findings at Tel Hazor including a basalt lion sculpture, a fortress gate, and “TEL HAZOR” in English, Hebrew and Arabic. The coin’s obverse displays the Israel State Emblem, a 10th century BC incense altar, and “ISRAEL” in English, Hebrew and Arabic.
Struck in 14.4 grams of highly pure 92.5% Sterling silver, this coin is a legal tender One New Shequel coin. The New Shequel replaced the hyperinflated Old Shekel on January 1, 1986 and is divided into 100 Agora. This piece also comes in beautiful Proof-Like (PL) condition, meaning that even though it wasn't struck as a proof, its brilliant and reflective finish has earned it a “Proof-Like” designation.
The Bank of Israel released just 1,800 of these 2014 Israel Silver “Tel Hazor” New Shequel Proof-Like coins. Highly coveted the world over, there’s no telling when we’ll ever see these coins again. Don’t wait, order now!
