In 2021, the U.S. Mint brought the Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars back to honor the 100-year anniversaries of these influential coins—the last minting of the Morgan Dollar and the first minting of the Peace Dollar, both in 1921. The same size as the originals, the modern versions were the first legal-tender Morgan and Peace Dollars in 100 years! They were spectacularly gorgeous, created with modern technology and historical U.S. Mint assets, showcasing their original, timeless designs with even more clarity!

The 2021 coins were authorized by the 1921 Silver Dollar Coin Anniversary Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump on January 5, 2021. The act required "the Department of the Treasury to mint and issue coins in honor of the 100th anniversary of the completion of coinage of the Morgan dollar and the 100th anniversary of the commencement of coinage of the Peace dollar." 

Both series were intended to be annual releases, but that plan was stymied in 2022 when the U.S. Mint was caught off-guard by the global shortage of the silver blanks required to strike the coins and canceled the releases.

Collectors eagerly awaited the return of the modern Morgan and Peace series in 2023. They were thrilled with another uncirculated version of these popular coins and the first Morgan and Peace Dollars ever struck with a reverse proof finish.

Unlike the vintage original Morgan Silver Dollars and Peace Silver Dollars—which were struck in 90% silver and 10% copper—these modern Morgan and Peace Dollars are struck in 99.9% pure silver.
