One Of The Finest “Bracelet Notes” That PMG Has Ever Seen!

Besides its age and large size, this vintage 1880 series $2 Legal Tender Fr. 50 Note is remarkable because of its outstanding condition. Nicknamed the “Bracelet Note” for the intricate bracelet design on the back, it comes to you graded in Choice Uncirculated 64 condition by Paper Money Guaranty (PMG), the world’s largest third-party paper currency grader. Additionally, PMG designated this note as being an Exceptional Paper Quality (EPQ) specimen, guaranteeing that it is original, and has not been physically, chemically, or materially altered to lend the appearance of a higher grade. According to the current PMG population report for Fr. 50 Notes, only 103 have been submitted for grading, and of those, just 8 grade higher than 64 EPQ. Quite simply, this is one of the best notes that PMG has ever seen!

A Vintage Note That’s Sure To Please!

The Fr. 50 classification for this large 7⅜" x 3⅛" “horse blanket” note refers to the numbering system in the widely used Paper Money of the United States reference book written by Arthur L. Friedberg and Ira S. Friedberg. The Fr numbers indicate varieties existing within a larger type design. In the case of this note, it bears the courtesy autograph of James Gilfillan, who was the U.S. Treasurer from 1877 to 1883. His vertical signature near the portrait of President Thomas Jefferson on the front of the note is in the identical style of his engraved autograph on the note. So, this note features his signature twice—one done by him and the second printed. Courtesy autograph notes for this issue are seldom seen and this one is sure to please! Your note will arrive in a clear archival holder for optimal viewing and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Secure this important piece of U.S. history today!
