This 2014 Thorny Devil Silver Dollar Proof is part of the aptly named Remarkable Reptile series. The thorny devil is one of Australia’s most distinctive lizards. It eats only ants, and its thorns are a defense against predators. The Proof Silver Dollar features the lizard in color and has a stately bust of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Each is struck in one ounce of 99.9% silver and is larger than a U.S. Silver Dollar—and has more silver, too! Only 5,000 were minted, a small number for such an impressive subject. Each comes in mint packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
