The First Peace Dollars From The Denver And San Francisco Mints

The very first Peace Silver Dollars were minted at the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia in late December 1921. That small first-year mintage was struck as a High Relief one-year-only commemorative celebrating the end of World War I. The design was so popular that beginning in 1922 the United States Mint also began striking the now low relief coins at the Denver and San Francisco Mints, though combined their mintage in 1922 is nearly 57% less than Philadelphia. The coin wound up being rather short-lived, struck for just 10 years, but the legacy lives on in collections around the world.
