1863 $5 Confederate Paper Currency Note F–VF
Confederate $5 Notes From The Year The Battle Of Gettysburg Was Fought
As you might imagine, federal funds were cut off to Southern States when they seceded from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America. And so, to keep its economy going, the Confederacy printed these $5 Confederate Notes. Now you can travel back in time to an era when brother fought against brother for the very fate of the nation itself.
Historic Pieces Of Civil War History
Here we have an 1863 $5 Note printed the year that Union Forces turned back Picket’s Charges during the Battle of Gettysburg forever turning the tide of war into Union’s favor. This note features the same obverse as the 1864 note, but with a “V” across the back instead of the word “FIVE.” More than 150 years old, it’s remarkable that any of these historic pieces of Civil War history have survived. Most were destroyed following the Southern defeat in the Civil War because they were deemed worthless with no government to back them with hard assets. But the notes available here all come in moderately circulated Fine to Very Fine (F–VF) condition. Add these $5 Confederate Notes to your collection today!
