1878–2008 U.S. Dollar Story 5-pc Set w/1957 $1 Silver Certificate
The U.S. Dollar Story
From the days of the American Wild West to today, the U.S. dollar has had quite the journey. This five-piece set brings that story to life in a custom album for you to enjoy and share with friends and family. Here’s what you’ll receive:
- Morgan Silver Dollar. Struck in 90% silver from 1878 to 1904 and for a final time in 1921, this was THE coin of the Wild West where hefty silver dollars wee preferred over paper money.
- Peace Silver Dollar. Struck in 90% silver from 1921 to 1928, and again in 1934 and 1935, this beautiful coin celebrated the end of World War I and circulated widely during the Roaring ‘20s and Great depression.
- Eisenhower Dollar. This big dollar coin paid tribute to President Dwight David Eisenhower, who also as a general during World War II served as the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. Issued from 1971 to 1978; “Ike” dollars were the first dollar coins issued since the end of the Peace Dollar series in 1935.
- Susan B. Anthony Dollar. This ill-fated coin was issued from only 1979 to 1981 and once again in 1999. It was meant to replace paper currency but failed to catch on due to its similarity in size to the U.S. quarter.
- Sacagawea Dollar. Also known as the “Golden Dollar” due to its golden appearance, this coin was struck for the first time in 2000. It was renamed the Native American Dollar in 2009 with reverse designs that change every year.
As an added bonus, you’ll also receive a 1957 $1 Silver Certificate. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order 1110, slowly halting the production of $1 Silver Certificates. That means the 1957 Series was the final year of the $1 Silver Certificates. These federally issued notes were as good as a silver dollar in your pocket — in fact that was exactly their purpose: any one of these notes could be taken into a bank and traded for a gleaming silver dollar.
