Dare To Stare Down An Amazonian Monster?
While Alligators in the southeastern United States have a natural fear of humans, their Central and South American cousin, the Caiman, often travels in groups and is known to be more aggressive than alligators. Though very similar in appearance, there are some subtle differences. Where a gator has a little overbite and mouth with teeth that tend to be round, short, and wide; the caiman has a huge upper jaw and mouth full of teeth that are long and narrow. Here you can try your hand at staring down one of these deadly beasts on this Obsidian Black colorized silver kilo coin that paints a harrowing picture of this Amazonian monster
Fabulous Ultra High Relief Design Captures The Face Of The Caiman
Struck in a full kilogram of highly pure 99.9% fine silver, this coin pays tribute to one of the world’s most dangerous nocturnal predators. It captures all the power and ferocity embodied by a “smiling” Caiman, one of nature’s most impressive hunters, one that uses its acute sight and hearing to locate its prey and then grip and hold it with teeth designed for grabbing, not ripping. The coin’s rich obsidian black colorization is as lustrous as it is secretive. That’s because Germany’s world-renowned Mayer Mint has not yet revealed the formula behind this process. What’s more, this coin was struck with unbelievable Ultra High Relief (UHR) detail using Coin Invest Trust (CIT) SmartMinting® technology. The combination of the Ultra High Relief, super black finish, and the Caiman’s extremely realistic eyes has made this coin, the fourth in the “Hunters by Night” series, an instant success!
An Apex Predator At Home On Land Or In The Water
While certain Caiman species can be quite small, reaching only 6 feet and weighing 88 pounds, the dreaded Black Caiman found in the Amazon may grow up to 14 feet long and weigh around 1,300 pounds—a size that equals the largest reported alligator ever recorded. By contrast, most alligators grow to 13 feet and typically weigh up to 790 pounds. Caimans are great swimmers, too, a fact that has led to them being thought of as being the familiars of the mythical Yacuruna, a water people who live in underwater cities in the Amazon basin, often at the mouths of rivers. The Yacuruna are described as hairy man-like creatures with backward-facing heads and deformed feet that roam the Amazon rainforest at night riding on the backs of Black Caimans searching for human victims. Caimans are extremely well-adapted for swimming, using their strong tails to propel them in the water while they swim, not using their legs at all. Despite this, they are also known to emerge out of the water and hunt on land. An apex predator, they subsist on fish, birds, turtles, and large mammals.
