It is the very end of 1921. World War I is over but still fresh in the minds of the world, and there are still seven years before the Great Depression hits. America is in the midst of an economic boom and needs silver coins to replace all of the Morgan dollars melted down by the Pittman Act. Enter the Peace Dollar. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the Peace Dollar was named to commemorate the end of the war to end all wars. The Peace Dollar was the last 90% silver dollar put into circulation in America until the issuance of the Eisenhower Dollar, and later the Susan B. Anthony dollar. The Peace Dollar carried America through the roaring twenties and the Great Depression, but its production ceased soon after that.

Peace Dollars, were first struck in high relief but the dies kept breaking due to the force required to bring up coinage details, so the design was "flattened" beginning in 1922. Minted from 1921 to 1928 and in 1934 and 1935 Peace Dollars are an American classic and are perfect for anyone looking for Americana, history, and of course, a timeless design struck in .900 fine silver.

Minted for the First Time in 100 Years

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Peace Dollar, the U.S. Congress passed the "1921 Silver Dollar Coin Anniversary Act". 


Featuring the same designs created by Italian American Sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar differs from its vintage ancestors only in that instead of being struck in 26.73 grams of 90% fine silver, it has been minted in .858 troy ounces of highly pure 99.9% silver. The rest is all still there—the same profile of Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays modeled after the design of the Statue of Liberty. The model for Lady Liberty was 23-year-old Teresa Cafarelli de Francisci, the young sculptor’s wife. The familiar reverse returns as well showing an eagle at rest holding an olive branch above the inscription “PEACE.”
