For the first time in numismatic history, the U.S. Mint and Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) have collaborated to bring collector’s a momentous product – An American Silver Eagle and a Canadian Silver Maple set called the Pride of Two Nations!
In addition to the incredible, first-ever pedigree for the set, each of the coins in this set are also first-ever versions of their existing series – a “W” Mint mark Enhanced Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle, and a Modified Proof Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. Neither Mint has ever struck a coin with these finishes before, and who knows if they ever will again!
2019-W “Enhanced Reverse Proof” American Silver Eagle
The American Silver Eagle in this set is struck by the West Point branch of the U.S. Mint and will carry that facility’s iconic “W” Mint mark. What sets this coin aside from any other American Silver Eagle, however, is the fact that it will carry a finish never seen before on a Silver Eagle…
Dubbed “Enhanced Reverse Proof”, this finish will provide a detailed arrangement of frosted, semi-frosted, and mirrored areas of the design. The effect is very similar to what was seen on the 2013 Enhanced Uncirculated American Silver Eagles, but… reversed!
This finish is applied to the surface of a coin struck multiple times to ensure the finest possible detail.
2019 “Modified Proof” Canadian Silver Maple Leaf
In contrast with the Silver Eagle, the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf will carry what the RCM is calling a “Modified Proof” finish. This finish will provide not only frosted devices and mirrored fields, but also a stunning pattern of etched maples, star, and stripes on its field. This drastic effect provides a physical display of the U.S. and Canadian collaboration on this program.
This finish is applied to the surface of a coin struck multiple times to ensure the finest possible detail.
Collectors may be interested to discover that the RCM is unable to strike a simple Proof Silver Maple Leaf. This not due to any technological constraints, but simply because they said they wouldn’t! Back in 1989, the Royal Canadian Mint issued the first-ever (and what would be the last-ever) Proof Silver Maple Leaf to commemorate the 10thAnniversary of the series. A strict stipulation placed on the set was that no other simple Proof Maples could be struck. Now 30 years later, the RCM is still forced to find innovative ways to not only one-up a typical proof finish, but also get around their own restrictions!
VERY Limited Mintage
Mintage on this prestigious set is limited to 110,000 in totality; 100,000 sets from the U.S. Mint, and just 10,000 sets from the RCM. NGC will be designating sets based on whether they were sold from the U.S. Mint or the RCM, meaning that at just 10,000 sets those designated “From RCM” will be one of the smallest Silver Eagle varieties in the history of the series!
NGC Certified as First Releases (FR) and First Day of Issue (FDI)
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) is one of the leading third-party grading services in the world. A select number of 2019 Pride of Two Nations 2-coin sets will come certified by NGC as First Releases (FR) or First Day of Issue (FDI) , designations coveted among collectors.
Perfect 70 Grade
