The black bear is a highly adaptable mammal found across forests, mountains, and swamps throughout North America, easily recognized by its powerful build and typically black, though sometimes brown or cinnamon-colored, fur. Omnivorous and opportunistic, it feeds on everything from berries and insects to small animals and human food when available.
