1866–1901 Hong Kong Victoria 2-pc Set VG–F
Hong Kong Coins With a Decidedly British Slant
From 1841 to 1997, Hong Kong was not only ruled by Great Britain, but a large chunk of that time occurred during the fabulous Victorian Era when the sun never set on the British Empire. This, of course, was during the reign of Queen Victoria, who reigned for more than 60 years from 1937 to 1901. Thanks to her long reign and far-reaching influence, we have these attractive five-cent and ten-cent coins minted between 1866 and 1901 (dates vary).
Little-Known Victorian Coins
Struck in 80% fine silver, the obverse of each coin features an effigy of Queen Victoria, while the reverse displays the coin’s value in both English and Chinese. Since these coins were struck for Hong Kong, many collectors of British Victoria coins might not know of their existence, leaving a hole in their collections.
We’ve managed to secure 40 of these two-coin sets in Very Good to Fine (VG–F) condition, each containing one five-cent and one ten-cent piece. Each coin comes in an acrylic holder and the set will come displayed in a deluxe presentation case and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. These coins may become harder to find as political turmoil in Hong Kong continues, so hurry and secure them for your collection now while there’s still time.
