2021-(PSW) $1 Silver Eagle Type 1 “Struck At” 3-pc Mint Set NGC MS70 First Day of Issue w/Patriotic Foil Cores & Mercanti-Signed Flag Labels
For the Last Time! Flawless Silver Eagles Struck by Three Mints, Signed by Mercanti
After 35 years, these 2021-dated Silver Eagles represent the final time the United States Mint will strike the American Silver Eagle bullion coin featuring designer-engraver John Mercanti’s stunning “Heraldic Eagle” design on the coin’s reverse. The Mint had announced that 2020 would be the last year to feature the design, but in the fall it confirmed that it would begin its production run of 2021 dated Brilliant Uncirculated bullion Silver Eagles with John Mercanti’s original reverse design, and complete the 2021 run with the new reverse design. It represents a monumental year for the Silver Eagle Series with a first and a last in the same year of the Mint’s most popular coin!
Special Emergency Production “Struck At” Eagles
This three-coin set features gleaming Type 1 Silver Eagles struck at the Philadelphia, San Francisco and West Point Mints. These three coins do not possess a mint mark. Instead, they have been certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and sonically sealed in acrylic holders with special “Struck at” pedigree labels that identify which mint they were struck based on the serial number found on the sealed monster boxes of 2021 Silver Eagles. Additionally, NGC has applied an additional pedigree of “Emergency Production” to the coins struck at the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mint, which struck the coins in response to production slowdowns at the West Point Mint caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Flawless Silver Eagles from Among the First Issued With Special Display Cores
Plus, each 2021 American Silver Eagle available here has been graded by NGC as being in flawless Uncirculated Mint State-70 (MS70) condition, a distinction that means these perfectly-graded coins have ZERO imperfections — showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended. In addition, NGC has also certified that these Silver Eagles are First Day of Issue (FDI) coins, a designation that means they were received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository by the release date or on the business day within 24 hours of the official release date. Collectors seek out these coins because they are produced with new dies and are considered to have sharper strikes and deeper mirrors than those that are struck later. Also, the population of coins labeled First Day of Issue is only a fraction of the total mintage.
Signed by the Legendary John Mercanti
Finally, each label features an American Flag and has been personally signed by the legendary John M. Mercanti, the U.S. Mint’s 12th Chief Engraver! A giant in the numismatic world, Mercanti has produced more coin and medal designs than any person in U.S. Mint history. What’s more, the acrylic holders for each coin will come with special colored foil display cores — one red, one white and one blue.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- WEINMAN’S CLASSIC WALKING LIBERTY . . . – Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design first made its debut on the 1916 half dollar, lasting three decades before bowing out in 1947. In 1986, this iconic image was reborn for the Silver Eagle with her exquisitely detailed beauty remaining on the coin ever since.
- . . . PAIRED FOR THE FINAL TIME WITH JOHN MERCANTI’S HERALDIC EAGLE! – This coin’s stoic and symbolic Heraldic Eagle was created by designer John Mercanti — the most prolific coin and medal designer in United States Mint history! This will be the LAST time the U.S. Mint will use this design and will replace it with a new reverse later in 2021.
- EXPERTLY STRUCK IN HIGHLY PURE SILVER – The craftspeople of the U.S. Mint are known around the world for their skill and attention to detail. It’s this talent that transforms each one-ounce planchet of 99.9% fine silver into a beautiful piece of numismatic art.
- U.S. LEGAL TENDER – Each 2021 Silver Eagle bullion coin is one dollar United States of America legal tender, as seen on the coin’s reverse.
- PERFECT UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your 2021 American Silver Eagles have been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) in perfect Mint State-70 (MS70) condition.
- TYPE 1 DESIGNATION – These coins were given the Type-1 pedigree to note that they bear the original Mercanti Heraldic Eagle Reverse design.
- SPECIAL “STRUCK AT” DESIGNATIONS – Each coin will have special “Struck at” designations to identify which mint — West Point, Philadelphia or San Francisco — struck the coin.
- EMERGENCY PRODUCTION PEDIGREE – The labels for the coins struck at the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints will feature a special “Emergency Production” pedigree to note they were struck in response to production slowdowns at the West Point Mint caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
