Multiple Finishes Enhance Stunning Maple Leaf Designs

The gorgeous Maple Leaves on these coins are the work of Stan Witten, a Canadian artist and senior engraver at the Royal Canadian Mint. Witten’s design was created by combining three Maple leaves in an overlay pattern in which each leaf becomes progressively smaller and selectively enhanced with its own distinctive finish. The design also includes a unique dual date—1867–2017—flanking the stalk of the largest maple Leaf. The coin’s obverse features Canadian artist Susana Blunt’s iconic effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.

Each coin features a reverse proof finish which accentuates the Maple Leaf design as well as the Susanna Blunt effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II on the cion’s obverse. A Reverse Proof finish is the opposite of a regular Proof finish. Instead of featuring frosted details rising over mirror-like fields, a Reverse Proof boasts mirror-like details rising over frosted fields.
