Paying Tribute To John Mercanti In Silver Eagles

John Mercanti was the 12th Chief Designer of the United States Mint from 2006 to 2010. He is also the man who has produced more coin and medal designs than any employee in U.S. Mint history—with many notable designs, including the popular “Heraldic Eagle” design that graced the reverse of the American Silver Eagle for 35 years.

Silver Eagles That To Pay Tribute To Mercanti’s Expertise

This Silver Eagle collection struck in highly pure 99.9% fine silver is a wonderful way to pay tribute to Mercanti’s expertise. Consisting of Silver Eagles comprised of both proofs and mint state coins, this massive, 14-piece set includes every type of Silver Eagle that was struck during the years that Mercanti served as Chief Engraver, and includes a coin from each available mint, certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) in grades ranging from perfect Uncirculated Mint State-70 (MS70) condition to flawless Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (PF70UC) condition. Plus, each coin has been sonically sealed in a museum-quality acrylic holder and encapsulated with a label hand-signed by John Mercanti.

Mercanti joined the Mint in 1974 as a sculptor-engraver. His tenure of 37 years at the Mint was surpassed by only Frank Gasparro (39 years), William Barber (47 years), and George T. Morgan at (48 years). He served as the Mint’s Chief Engraver from 2006 to 2010. The set includes:

2006 Silver Eagle, MS70

2006-W, PF70UC

2006-P, “20th Anniversary Set” Reverse PF70

2006-W, Burnished, MS70

You may have noticed that no 2009-W Proof Silver Eagles are available here. That’s because the U.S. Mint cancelled Silver Eagle Proof production that year due to heavy demand for Silver Eagle bullion coins.
