Rare Proof-Like Carson City Morgan

The Morgan Silver Dollar is perhaps the most widely collected vintage U.S. Silver Dollar. It’s enjoyed by collectors around the world — and few Morgans are as cherished as those from the Carson City Mint. Erected to assist in the striking of coins from the fabled Comstock Lode, the Carson City Mint produced fewer Morgan Silver Dollars than any other U.S. Mint in the coin’s entire 28-year run.

That includes the 1885-CC Morgan, struck to one of the lowest mintages of the entire series at just 228,000 coins. With so few of these Morgan Silver Dollars estimated to still exist after more than 135 years, getting any of these coins would be a collector’s dream. But even among this scarce mintage, there are those few that rise to the top. This is one of those coins.

This 1885-CC Morgan comes graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in gorgeous Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 (MS64) condition. In addition, even though this coin wasn’t struck as a proof its brilliant and reflective finish has earned it a Proof-Like (PL) designation from PCGS. Proof-Like coins are often some of the first coins struck, with the fresh dies leaving crisp details and luster that’s so brilliant that the coins are just this side of official Proof condition.

We have just one of these beautiful coins available. Become the envy of all your Morgan collecting peers and secure it for your collection today.

  • AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar — so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan – has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921, it was the coin of America’s “Wild West” and jingled in the coin purses of gamblers, gunfighters, soldiers and dance hall girls.
  • CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings. The model used for Liberty was Miss Anna Williams of Philadelphia, who Morgan declared to have the most perfect feminine profile he had ever seen.
  • STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – Struck in 26.73 grams of 90% silver from the famous Comstock Lode, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a big coin 38.1 mm in diameter. When this coin was plunked down on a counter, its weight meant real money, pure and simple.
  • LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLAR – Morgans were $1 legal tender and struck during the heyday of America’s Wild West era where coins were overwhelmingly preferred over paper currency.
  • AMAZING UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your 1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollars HAS BEEN GRADED BY THE Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64Proof-Like (MS64 PL) Uncirculated condition.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence!
