LAST Silver Dollar Struck For Circulation In 90% Silver!
The Peace Silver Dollar was intended as a one-year-only celebration of World War I’s end, but proved so popular that the series ran from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. The San Francisco Mint struck only 27% of the Peace Silver Dollars issued during the ten years the coin was minted—compared to 58% struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Here you have the last 1935-S Peace Dollar minted in San Francisco, struck in highly pure 90% fine silver. Coin experts estimate that only 16% of all Peace Dollars minted still exist today in any condition!
The Designer Of America’s Fabled Peace Dollar
The Peace Silver Dollar was designed by Italian-American sculptor Anthony De Francisci, who used his wife, Teresa Cafarelli, as his model for Lady Liberty. The design presents Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle holding the olive branches of peace, rather than the typical olive branches and arrows of war. The coin’s original reverse showed an eagle breaking a sword to symbolize disarmament at the end of the war. Mint officials were concerned this depiction would signify defeat and had the sword removed. The result was a beautiful symbol of peace for the ages!
Peace Dollars Are Red Hot!
The Peace Dollar has often been overlooked by collectors obsessed with amassing Morgan Silver Dollars. But as supplies of this beautiful and artistic coin have dwindled, collectors have taken notice and today the market for vintage Peace Dollars is red hot! In addition to being the LAST 90% silver dollar series struck for circulation by the United States Mint, millions of these coins were melted over the years for their precious metal. That makes the coins available here even more remarkable because they have been graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition! Availability is limited so secure yours now before our small supply is gone!
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- A BEAUTIFUL COIN RICH IN SYMBOLISM – The Peace Dollar is a true American symbol of peace. Fascinated by the Statue of Liberty, designer Anthony De Francisci’s obverse presents Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays, like that on the Statue of Liberty. The reverse features an eagle holding the olive branches of peace, rather than the typical olive branches and arrows of war.
- STRUCK IN GLEAMING SILVER – The Peace Silver Dollars available here were struck at the San Francisco Mint in 26.73 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver and measure 38.1 mm in diameter.
- LEGAL-TENDER U.S. COINAGE – These coins were $1 legal tender in the United States and circulated widely during the Roaring ’20s and Depression-era ’30s.
- CHOICE UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your 1935-S Silver Peace Silver Dollar has been graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition.
- THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING PEACE DOLLAR – Despite millions of Peace Silver Dollars being struck from 1921 to 1935, most were lost in circulation or melted down in mass silver meltings. In fact, coin experts believe that only 16% of all Peace Dollars remain in existence today!
