1878–1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollar 2-pc Set NGC MS65+/MS66+
Incredible Morgan Silver Dollar Set From The Carson City Mint!
You may have heard that coin experts have estimated that as few as 15% of all Morgan Silver Dollars—in any condition—still exist! That makes this gorgeous, scarce set all the more desirable—especially since these coins are from the Carson City Mint, which struck only 2% of the total Morgan mintage.
High-Grade Gem Uncirculated Carson City Morgan Silver Dollars
This two-piece set is gorgeous! It consists of a first-year-of-issue 1878-dated Morgan graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as being in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-65+ (MS65+) condition and an 1881-dated Morgan—the coin with the second lowest mintage from the Carson City Mint—graded by NGC in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-66+ (MS65+) condition. The rarely seen “+” in the grades means each of these coins has exceptional eye appeal and ranks in the top 30% of the grade or are very close to reaching the next grade.
Scarce Wild West Dollars From The Carson City Mint
In the days of the Wild West, the silver dollar was king. These hefty, highly pure 90% fine silver coins circulated heavily throughout the nation—all thanks to the Comstock Lode discovered near Virginia City, Nevada. So, it’s no surprise that a mint sprung up in nearby Carson City, Nevada to help handle the load. Surprisingly, the Carson City Mint struck the Morgan for only 13 years, with its total mintage for all years combined making up just 2% of the total mintage of all Morgan Silver Dollars struck between 1878 and 1921. Now, after years of being worn in commerce, scratched in saddle bags, and melted down for their precious metal, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a shadow of its former self. So, when beautiful scarce beauties like the ones in this set appear, it’s no wonder that modern collectors scramble to be the first to stash them away in their private collections.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar—so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan—has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921, it was the coin of America’s “Wild West” and jingled in the coin purses of gamblers, gunfighters, soldiers, and dance hall girls.
- CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings. The model used for Liberty was Miss Anna Williams of Philadelphia, who Morgan declared to have the most perfect feminine profile he had ever seen.
- STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – Morgan Silver Dollars were struck in highly pure 90% fine silver from the famous Comstock Lode and measure 38.1 mm in diameter.
- LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLAR – Morgans were $1 legal tender and struck during the heyday of America’s Wild West era where coins were overwhelmingly preferred over paper currency.
- GEM UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your coins have been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) in Gem Uncirculated condition with the 1878-CC Morgan graded in Mint State-65+ (MS65+) condition and the 1881-CC Morgan graded in Mint State-66+ (MS66+) condition.
- THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence—and fewer still remain in Mint State-63 Uncirculated condition!
