1887-P/1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar 2-pc Set NGC MS63/MS65 New York Bank Hoard/Great Southern Hoard
Two Great Morgans From Two Historic Hoards
This set gives you the opportunity to secure two great Morgan Silver Dollars from two different mints — and two different historic hoards!
The New York Bank Hoard
This set begins with an 1887-P Morgan Silver Dollar, certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition. This coin comes from the New York Bank Hoard — a hoard of 16 unopened bags of Morgan Dollars from the Treasury Hoard of the 1960s, hidden away by a Wall Street worker in a vault for decades. Full 1,000-coin bags from the Treasury Hoard are nearly unheard of — 16 bags are nothing short of incredible!
The Great Southern Hoard
The second coin in this set is an 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar graded by NGC in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-65 (MS65) condition from the Great Southern Hoard. This was a hoard of 13,000 coins amassed by a southern gentleman who grew up during the Depression. He was also a man who knew the value of silver and, like the Wall Street hoarder from the New York Bank Hoard, similarly secured his coins from the Treasury Hoard of the 1960s.
Two great Morgans from two historic hoards, each featuring their exclusive pedigrees from NGC on their labels. Only three of these sets are left in our vault, so hurry and secure yours now!
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar — so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan – has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921, it was the coin of America’s “Wild West” and jingled in the coin purses of gamblers, gunfighters, soldiers and dance hall girls.
- CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings. The model used for Liberty was Miss Anna Williams of Philadelphia, who Morgan declared to have the most perfect feminine profile he had ever seen.
- STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – Struck in 26.73 grams of 90% silver from the famous Comstock Lode, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a big coin 38.1 mm in diameter. When this coin was plunked down on a counter, its weight meant real money, pure and simple.
- LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLAR – Morgans were $1 legal tender and struck during the heyday of America’s Wild West era where coins were overwhelmingly preferred over paper currency.
- AMAZING MINT STATE CONDITION – Your 1887-P Morgan Silver Dollar has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition. The 1888-O Morgan was graded by NGC in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-65 (MS65) condition.
- THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence!
