First Five Roosevelt Silver Dimes

There used to be a time when you could reach inside your pocket and pull out a Roosevelt Dime struck in highly pure 90% fine silver. But those days are long gone—1964 was the final year that Roosevelt Dimes were struck in 90% silver—and that was more than 60 years ago! Here you’re getting the first five Roosevelt Dimes struck from 1946-1950 presented in a custom wallet.

Popular Coins That Honor A Popular President

The U.S. Mint released the Roosevelt Dime in 1946 less than a year after the death of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Since then, this coin has created a lasting legacy that few United States coins can match. Beautifully designed by John R. Sinnock, the revered 8th Chief Engraver at the U.S. Mint, the Roosevelt Dime was released into circulation on January 30, 1946 to coincide with what would have been President Roosevelt’s 64th birthday. Because Roosevelt suffered from polio and had helped found the March of Dimes to fight the disease, using his likeness on the dime was the obvious way of honoring the popular president for leading the country through the Great Depression and World War II. The reverse features a flaming torch, a symbol of liberty and freedom. The design—which also features a flaming torch, a symbol of liberty and freedom on the reverse—has proven to be so popular that it has remained unchanged ever since!
