Silver Round Recreates America’s Favorite Wild West Coin

America’s fabled Buffalo Nickel features arguably the most authentic western-themed images in the nation’s numismatic history. Designed by famed American sculptor James Earle Fraser, it was first released in 1913 and circulated until 1938 witnessing World War I, the Roaring ’20s, and the Depression Era ’30s. Its rugged depiction of an American Bison on the reverse and a portrait of a stoic Native American on the obverse has been a collector favorite—so much so that when the United States Mint began issuing $50 gold coins in 2006 it chose Fraser’s design!

Buffalo Nickel Design Faithfully Recreated On Silver Round

Now you can secure this epic design recreated by the highly respected SilverTowne Mint. One of the largest private mints in North America, SilverTowne is the nation’s top bullion producer and renowned in the precious metals industry for affordability, high quality, and exceptional purity standards. Though not a legal-tender coin, this bullion round was struck in a one ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver. Its incredible detail is exquisite, allowing the gleaming designs to shine in a way never before seen.

James Earle Fraser’s Famous Buffalo Nickel

James Earle Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel was popular throughout its run thanks to its uniquely and unequivocally American designs. The Indian depicted on the coin is a dead ringer for Oglala Lakota Chief Iron Tail—though Fraser claimed it was a composite of three men in order to protect both the Chief’s privacy and his own artistic license. The American bison on the reverse was directly related to the obverse design as buffalos were an important symbol for many Native Americans. The buffalo was modeled after Black Diamond, a large American bison then on display at the Bronx Zoo in New York City not far from Fraser’s studio.
