Ultra High Relief Designs

This special re-issue of the original design comes in gold for the FIRST TIME (10-ounce & one-ounce), and in a new silver specification (kilo and five-ounce sizes). Not only were these Moon Festival Pandas minted with gorgeous Proof finishes with beautifully frosted details and mirror-like fields, but they were also struck in Ultra High Relief (UHR) using proprietary technology that allows the designs to tower above the surface of the proof! The image of a giant Panda hanging from a bamboo branch gazing up at a full moon is fabulous—as is the obverse scene that shows the Great Wall of China at night with an ancient Chinese armillary sphere floating in the sky. Each piece also displays a special “10” privy mark featuring the Chinese character 十 (shí) which represents the number “10.”

Apollo 9-Flown Kapton Foil Moon

For the FIRST TIME EVER, each proof comes with a moon-shaped insert crafted from gold- or silver-toned Kapton Foil that was taken aboard NASA space mission Apollo 9 and was removed by astronaut Russell “Rusty” Schweickart, Apollo 9’s Lunar Module Pilot. The mission saw the first crewed flight of a lunar module and Schweickart personally removed pieces of the protective Kaplon Foil from the lunar module hatch before the craft was jettisoned into space. Each Proof comes with a letter from Schweickart certifying the foil as having come from his personal collection.
