Treasures From The Royal Spanish Mint's Museum

Just 5,000 of these first-year coins were ever struck and thanks to our special relationship with the Royal Spanish Mint, we were able to secure some of the last pieces left in its vaults. The design on this splendid coin shows an image of the hydraulic coining wheels of the Royal Mill of Segovia, as they would have looked in the 17th century. The coin's obverse depicts a pair of coining rollers that are housed in The Mint's museum. Struck in highly pure 92.5% Sterling silver, this €10 (Ten Euros) legal-tender coin also comes in gorgeous Proof condition, meaning it was expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies, and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields. Each coin available here will come beautifully housed in its original mint packaging that consists of a clamshell beauty box with a Certificate of Authenticity and a protective sleeve.

Commemorating The Spanish Golden Century

The coin is also dedicated to commemoration of the 400 years since the Centén of 1623, a significant event marking the end of a period of immense cultural and political influence for Spain. The Centén, refers to the Spanish Golden Century, an era that saw Spain at the height of its power and artistic brilliance, encompassing the reign of Philip III and Philip IV. In 1623, the Royal Mill of Segovia, Spain, produced coinage for the Spanish Empire by striking them into long sheets of metal using presses powered by hydraulic wheels. The Royal Spanish Mint's museum houses outstanding coin specimens struck on those wheels in the 17th century, as well as coining rollers that struck the coins in that period.
