The design of this 1715 2 Escudo “Cob” Type is based on a rare treasure: a coin recovered from the famous 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet shipwreck. The obverse displays the crowned Coat of Arms of Castile and León with “HISPANIARVM REX” (King of the Spains), referencing Philip V. The reverse includes the iconic pillars and waves design, “2” for denomination, and “PLV SVI TRA” (Latin for “Plus Ultra” or “More Beyond”), symbolizing Spain’s maritime reach and global power.
