Copper Medal Celebrates Artistry Of Spain's Famous Seaside City
Fernando Somoza Soriano is a Spanish artist famous for his unique, post-World War II/contemporary style. On this massive copper medal his Abstract Expressionism is revealed in all its glory in a design that recreates his interpretation of Spain's famous seaside city of Alicante that shows the iconic tower at the medieval Santa Barbara Castle, with palm trees, a crown, a woman, and the city's name surrounding it. The reverse design shows the same castle, but this time from a distance viewing the scene from the water. Boats sit in the foreground, with the sea between them and the castle. Here, by special arrangement with the Royal Mint of Spain, you can secure one of the last remaining medals from the release!
Massive Medal Features Unique Antique Finish
Part of Spain's Artistic Medal Series, this non-legal tender medal was struck by the Spanish Royal Mint in 326 grams of copper and measures an impressive 80 mm in diameter–that's more than three inches, which is even larger than the diameter of a typical aluminum can! It also feature a unique antique finish that only adds to the gravitas of the design. Antique finishes like this are typically applied by hand, meaning no two pieces are exactly alike. The piece also comes in beautiful Uncirculated (Unc) condition, as fresh and crisp as the day it left The Mint!
