1923-P Lincoln Cent PCGS MS64 RD
1923-P Wheat Cents in MS64 Red!
Struck from 1909 to 1958, the Lincoln Wheatback Cent is rarely seen in circulation today. During their heyday, a small handful of these copper “Wheaties” could buy a cup of coffee, a newspaper or a tasty morsel at a local fruit stand. Here we have a small cache of Lincoln Wheat Cents struck at the Mother Mint in Philadelphia in 1923 — the same year the New York Yankees won their first World Series, Vice-President Calvin Coolidge became the 30th President of the United States, and Walt Disney founded the company named after him.
High-Grade “Red” Lincoln Wheat Cents
What makes these vintage copper pennies even more spectacular is their grade. Each has been certified and graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 (MS64) condition. That’s a remarkably high grade for a coin that spent so much time in circulation. In fact, according to the combined reports of PCGS and the Numismatic Guaranty (NGC), only 1,338 of these coins from 1923 are even graded — and only a mere 636 have been graded MS64 with a Red (RD) designation like these beauties. A “Red” designation means that a coin retains at least 85% of its original red luster.
The combination of their coloring and fabulous condition means that these coins won’t last long! So, don’t drag your heels on this one. Secure yours now!
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- VINTAGE WHEAT BACK DESIGN – The Lincoln Cent is one of the most popular and recognizable coins ever struck by the U.S. Mint. Lincoln pennies struck from 1909 to 1958 featured a pair of wheat stalks on the reverse instead of the Lincoln Memorial that replaced it in 1959.
- STRUCK IN LUSTROUS COPPER – Unlike today’s Lincoln Pennies that are struck in copper-plated zinc, these Lincoln Wheat pennies were struck in 95% copper — and would be until 1982 except for 1943 when they were struck in steel during World War II.
- UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – These coins are one cent legal tender in the United States.
- INCREDIBLE HIGH-GRADE – Your 1923-P Lincoln Wheat Cent has been graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PVGS) in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 Red (MS64 RD) condition — remarkable for a coin that is nearly 100 years old from a series that has seen heavy circulation over the past century.
