1939 United States Proof Set
1939 Proof Set Gone With the Wind
In 1939, John Steinbeck published The Grapes of Wrath. Nylon stockings made their appearance, only to be filled out nicely by Betty Grable a few years later. And, baseball legend Lou Gerhrig gave his I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth retirement speech. The U.S. Mint didn't make many more 1939 Proof sets than they did in 1938 - they struck just shy of 9,000. The set contains a Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, and a 90% silver Mercury Dime, Washington Quarter and Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Each of the five proofs in the set were sent out in an individual plastic sleeve. This set is well-protected in a hard plastic holder. Oh, and 1939 saw the release of Gone With the Wind - and that's what's likely to happen to this 1939 Proof set. Call now before it blows away!
