The U.S. Mint Has Done it Again

It’s a first-ever for the U.S. Mint. There’s no question about it—this release is going to be BIG.

2020 marks the 60thanniversary of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. To commemorate that anniversary, the U.S. Mint is striking their first-ever curved basketball coins! This marks just the third time in history that the mint has struck a coin series featuring a curved surface. The first two releases, the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative and the 2019 Apollo 13 Commemoratives, were both massive hits.

This is one release you won’t want to miss. Especially when you see who’s signing labels…

Special Curved Designs
Like the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame coins, the 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame Commemoratives feature an outwardly curved reverse depicting the ball around which the sport revolves. In this case, a basketball is seen about to drop through a hoop. And just look at that detail on the ball!

The concave obverse displays three athletes—a man, a woman, and a man in a wheelchair—all reaching for the same ball as a way to symbolize how the sport of basketball brings together people from all walks of life through a universal athletic experience. Each of their arms is slightly elongated to emphasize the physical and mental energy required by the sport. In the background is a basketball net.

Available in Gold or Silver
The 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame 60th Anniversary Commemorative series includes three coins: a clad Half Dollar, a 99.9% fine Silver Dollar, and a 90% pure gold $5 piece.

All three coins have been struck with a standard Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish and with a stunning Proof finish, featuring frosty devices and mirrored fields.

Certified Flawless and First Day of Issue (FDI) by NGC
If you act fast, you can acquire a single Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Dollar Proof, a three-piece set that includes the Half Dollar Proof, Silver Dollar Proof and $5 Gold Proof, or an incredible six-coin set that includes all three coins in both BU and Proof condition.

No matter which you choose to add to your collection, your coin will arrive certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), one of the world’s leading third-party grading services, as flawless Mint State-70 (MS70) or Proof 70 (PF70) condition. Coins are graded on a scale of 1-70, with 70 representing perfection even under magnification. It doesn’t get better than MS70 and PF70! That is, except for the additional special pedigrees…

In addition to a flawless grade, these first-ever U.S. Mint Basketball Hall of Fame curved coins have received the coveted First Day of Issue (FDI) pedigree from NGC. These coins are certified as having been received for grading by NGC within the first 24 hours of the mintage’s release!

Each coin will come individually sealed in a protective black-core display holder with an exclusive hand-signed label. A label signed by one of the greatest basketball players of all time…

Exclusive Labels Hand-Signed by Basketball Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Kareem Abdul-Jabber is arguably one of the top five greatest National Basketball Association (NBA) players of all time. He is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, a six-time NBA champion and the only player to ever be named NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) six times. Best of all, Kareem is an avid coin collector and was the first African-American member of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee for the U.S. Mint. He came to an interest in numismatics through his love of history and study of Alexander Hamilton, America’s first Secretary of the Treasury and one of our nation’s Founding Fathers.

After months of work, we have secured exclusive distribution of 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame Commemoratives sealed with exclusive labels hand-signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar himself! You’ll not only be securing the first-ever curved basketball coin from the U.S. Mint, you’ll also be securing the hand-signed autograph of one of basketball’s most iconic players.

Only a limited number of each coin have been certified by NGC as flawless MS70 or PF70, certified as First Day of Issue (FDI) and sealed with a label hand-signed by basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. To secure one of these fantastic sets for your collection, you must act NOW!
