The 1/10th Oz American Gold Eagle is one of the fractional varieties of the U.S. Mint’s American Gold Eagle series. With a denomination of $5, it is the smallest of the four American Gold Eagle coins, containing 1/10th ounce of 22 karat gold (91.67%) and measuring 16.5 mm. One-Tenth-Ounce American Gold Eagles are issued annually as bullion coins, prized for their precious metal content, and Proof coins, geared towards collectors. 1/10th Oz Gold Eagles make great entry-level coins for almost any budget and thoughtful gifts that will always be kept and cherished for generations to come.

Types of 1/10th Oz Gold Eagles

1/10th Oz American Gold Eagles were part of the first year of issue of the Gold Eagle series, debuting as bullion coins with a Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish in 1986. This fractional variety was not struck with a Proof finish until 1988, but has been regularly released since then, except for 2009.  Burnished 1/10th Oz Gold Eagles were struck for a brief period of time, from 2006 to 2008, but have not been issued since.

Each 1/10-oz Gold American Eagle contains 0.1 ounces of gold. The metal content for each Gold Eagle Coin is 91.67% gold (22 karats), and an alloy of 3% silver and 5.33% copper to help increase the stability and scratch-resistance of the coins. Also, each 1/10 oz Gold Eagle weighs 3.393 grams and has a face value of $5.

2026 1/10th Oz Gold Eagles

2026 is a milestone year for 1/10th Oz Gold Eagles, marking forty years since they were first released in 1986, the fifth anniversary of the Type II Eagle Portrait design that debuted in mid-2021, and the implementation of laser-engraved master dies on all Gold Eagle varieties.

1776-2026 Dual Date and 250th Anniversary Liberty Bell Privy Mark

In addition to the 40th anniversary, 2026 is also the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. To celebrate the occasion, 1/10th Oz American Gold Eagle Proofs will be struck with a 1776-2026 dual date and a 250th anniversary Liberty Bell Privy Mark. 2026 is notably the first time a dual date has appeared on the Gold Eagle series and the first time a One-Tenth-Ounce Gold Eagle has ever been struck with a privy mark.
