DC coins bring the legendary heroes and villains of the DC Universe to collections around the world and are issued by a variety of mints, including the U.S. Mint. From stylized Chibi® coins to tributes to famous comic book issues, and more, DC collectible coins capture the iconic characters and familiar iconography of comic books with remarkable precision.
Agoro is the specialized collectibles division of the New Zealand Mint, focusing on high-quality silver and gold treasures for fans of pop culture. This division has carved out a unique niche by blending traditional numismatics with globally recognized licenses that include a vast array of DC Comics characters. The range of DC collectibles from Agoro is remarkably diverse, moving far beyond standard circular coins. Their offerings include:
For the first time in its 233 years, the U.S. Mint has partnered with DC to recognize comics as a distinctly American art form. This program is the Mint’s largest public-private partnership to date and marks a clear shift from conventional U.S. Mint programs. The series will be issued over three years and will feature designs honoring nine iconic DC superheroes on 24-karat gold coins, 99.9% fine silver medals, and clad medals. The Mint notably opened the selection process to the public from July 10 to August 11, 2024, allowing voters to choose which superheroes would be featured.
The Comic Art Coin & Medal Program officially began in the summer of 2025 with the Superman design released on July 24. The Batman and Wonder Woman designs were later unveiled at the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money in Oklahoma City in August 2025.
Joseph Menna, the U.S. Mint’s Chief Engraver and a former DC Comics artist, leads the artwork for this program. He designed and sculpted every obverse. The Mint’s Medallic Artists created the reverses under his direction, which keeps the series consistent while drawing on multiple artists’ strengths.
Menna notably helped establish the U.S. Mint’s current digital production methods. He produced the first digitally sculpted coin in 2007 and introduced the Mint’s digital 2-D design workflow. These digital advancements support the Comic Art Program today and give the superhero designs their distinctive, sharp detail and dimensional depth.
2025, the debut year of the DC coin and medal series, features three powerful designs that bring the world’s most iconic heroes, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, to collectors in precious metal and clad form. Each coin or medal is meticulously crafted with original artwork that captures the spirit of these timeless characters.
2025 also coincided with DC’s 90th anniversary in 2025, adding historical weight to this collaboration.
The first release in the series shows Superman in a forward, action-ready pose with his cape lifted and his “S” emblem clearly visible. Reflecting the qualities long associated with the Man of Steel™, truth, justice, and resilience, this design recognizes his place in comic history and his role as one of the earliest and most influential superheroes.
The next release features Batman launching from a stone building with a carved eagle. The reverse places him against the Gotham City™ skyline with the Bat-Signal overhead.
The third and final release of 2025 depicts Wonder Woman in flight with her shield and Lasso of Truth. American flag stripes behind her reference her early World War II-era stories. The reverse presents her as a global peacekeeper, with three doves above Earth.
The design reflects her dual role as a warrior and an ambassador, highlighting the qualities that have defined her character for generations.
2026 marks the second year of the U.S. Mint’s three-year Comic Art Coin & Medal series and will feature three new legendary superheroes. Each character will be honored across a range of formats, including 1/2 oz 24-karat gold legal tender coins, 99.9% fine silver medals in 2.5-oz and 1-oz sizes, in addition to clad medals. The 2026 lineup features:
While the final designs have not yet been officially released to the public, candidate designs were recently reviewed by both the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA). This page will be updated with the final designs after they are selected by the Secretary of the Treasury, who will consider recommendations from both the CCAC and the CFA.
Supergirl takes the lead as the first DC hero to be honored by the U.S Mint in 2026. Since her debut, Kara Zor-El™ has occupied a unique place in the DC universe as Superman’s cousin and fellow survivor of Krypton. She embodies a blend of grace and raw power, often serving as a symbol of hope for those far from home.
The second Comic Art design to be issued in 2026 features none other than Robin. While most people know him as the loyal half of the Dynamic Duo™, the Boy Wonder finally gets his due in a standalone release. Robin is often considered the ultimate sidekick, known for his fearlessness and loyalty.
The third Comic Art design will celebrate Green Lantern, specifically John Stewart, the third Green Lantern to protect planet Earth, and a fan favorite. Stewart brought a unique perspective to the mantle as a former Marine who is known for his "hard light" constructs, honor, and willpower.
The Mint has already mapped out the conclusion of this three-year journey. In 2027, the focus will shift to a new trio of icons that have helped define the DC legacy for decades. The scheduled releases for the final year include:
While other mints have issued licensed DC-themed coins, the United States Mint has never issued a comic-book-themed coin until the Comic Art Coin & Medal Collection. These coins are official U.S. Mint releases honoring some of the most iconic figures from DC Comics, intended for collecting rather than circulation. Each coin and medal is part of a limited-edition run (except for the one-ounce silver medals, which do not have a capped mintage).
These collectibles are more than fan memorabilia. Each Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman issue is a genuine numismatic piece, complete with the quality and gravitas one would expect from U.S. Mint issues. Whether you’re a coin collector, a comics enthusiast, or both, these DC coins offer a one-of-a-kind way to celebrate and collect your favorite heroes.
