Marking The 25th Anniversary Of Queen Elizabeth II & Prince Philip

In 1972, Great Britain’s world-renowned Royal Mint issued a commemorative 25 Pence Crown to commemorate the 25th Wedding Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The Royal Couple were wed on November 20, 1947 in a fairy tale ceremony broadcast around the world. One of the longest-lasting royal marriages in British history, they stayed together for 73 years until Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburg, passed away on April 9, 2021, at age 99. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed on Sept. 8, 2022.

Love Is At The Center Of This Coin

These one-time-issue coins are 25 Pence Great Britain legal tender struck in 28.4 grams of Copper-Nickel (CuNi) and features the second crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara on the obverse. The reverse shows the crowned letters EP within a floral garland and the naked figure of Eros (the mischievous god of love) at the center. Around the rim is an inscription that reads: “ELIZABETH AND PHILIP 20 NOVEMBER·1947-1972.”
