Vintage Barber Silver Quarters
More than 100 years ago, it wasn’t the Washington Quarter but the Barber Quarter that folks had rattling around in their pockets and coin purses. Struck in highly pure 90% fine silver, these coins were designed by Charles Barber, then-Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Other designs had been submitted—more than 300, in fact—but Barber, as part of a panel of judges, rejected them all in favor of designing the coin himself. The coin features a bust of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap on the obverse, with an agricultural wreath and the words “ONE QUARTER” on the reverse. You can secure a Ten-Piece bag of Barbers dated between 1892 and 1916—all graded in Good (G) condition. Dates and mint marks will vary, but every coin is more than 105 years old!
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- · FAMOUS BARBER DESIGN – This famous coin was designed by Charles E. Barber, the 6th Chief Engraver at the United States Mint. It depicts Miss Liberty wearing a crown made of olive branches with a small headband inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The same design was also used on dime and half dollar coins that circulated at the same time.
- · STRUCK IN GLEAMING SILVER – Barber Quarters were struck in 6.25 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver and measure 17.9 mm in diameter.
- · LEGAL TENDER – These coins were 25 cents legal tender in the United States at a time when a quarter could have purchased a loaf of bread or a quart of milk.
- · NICE COLLECTOR GRADE CONDITION – Each coin in your 1892–1916 Barber Quarter Ten-Piece Bag will come in Good (G) condition. Dates and mint marks will vary.
These are the coins Americans used at the Turn of the Century before being replaced by the Standing Liberty Quarter. Get your ten-coin bag of Barbers today!
