Early-Date 1883 Philadelphia Morgan Silver Dollars

Meet the “Buffalo Bill Silver Dollar!” This classic Morgan Silver Dollar was struck in 1883, the same year that William F. Cody, better known as Buffalo Bill, founded his famous Wild West show that entertained guests from around the world.

The Workhorse Coins Of The American Wild West

First struck in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar was one of the workhorse coins of the American Wild West. Minted in highly pure 90% fine silver, Morgans are the most widely collected and coveted silver dollars in U.S. history—perhaps in part because their numbers were dramatically slashed by the Pittman Act of 1918, which called for millions of Morgans to be melted. It’s believed that as few as 15% of all Morgans still exist in any condition.

Key-Date Morgan From The Mother Mint

Now you can secure a key-date 1883-P Morgan Silver Dollar struck at the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia. In addition, each Morgan available in this offer comes certified, graded, and encapsulated by either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 (MS64) condition. According to author Miles Standish in his book Morgan Dollar, 1883 was a tremendous year for coins coming from Philadelphia. He writes that “a majority of the (mintage) are of high quality with exceptional luster.” It’s a coin Buffalo Bill would have been proud to add to his saddlebags!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar—so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan—has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921. Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings.
  • STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – These Morgan Silver Dollars were struck in highly pure 90% fine silver from the famous Comstock Lode. It’s also a big coin measuring 38.1 mm in diameter.
  • LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLARS – These coins were $1 legal tender and struck during the heyday of America’s Wild West era where coins were overwhelmingly preferred over paper currency.
  • HIGH-GRADE UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your 1883-P Morgan Silver Dollar has been graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 (MS64) condition! Grading service varies.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence—and fewer still remain in Uncirculated condition!
