Morgan Silver Dollars From The Epicenter Of U.S. Coinage

In the 1880s, Nevada’s Comstock Lode was in full production, with loads of silver making its way East for striking at the Philadelphia Mint. Among the coins struck were these Morgan Silver Dollars, minted in 90% fine silver. The Morgan circulated heavily around the United States, and eventually as much as 85% of all Morgans struck wound up being worn down or melted for their silver.

High Grade Morgans From The “Mother Mint”

Incredibly, we’ve located 1886-dated Morgans struck at the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia that are still in phenomenal condition. In fact, each coin available here has been graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 (MS64) condition, meaning it features attractive overall quality with a pleasing eye appeal. Grading service varies.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar — so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan — has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921.
  • BIG SILVER COINS – Struck in 26.73 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a big coin measuring 38.1 mm in diameter.
  • CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings.
  • BEAUTIFUL UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your Morgan Silver Dollar has been graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 (MS64) condition. Grading service varies.
  • KEY-DATE COIN FROM THE MOTHER MINT – Struck at the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia, this 1886-dated coin is from America’s “Gilded Age” of the late 19th century and has no mint mark.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence — and fewer still remain in Choice Uncirculated condition!
