More than a century ago, the half dollar that lined people’s pockets was the Barber Half Dollar. Struck from 1892 to 1915, the 90% silver Barber Half Dollar is a classic American design. Featuring Liberty with a triple headdress consisting of a cap, a laurel wreath, and a tiny coronet inscribed with her name, the Barber Half Dollar gains its name from designer Charles E. Barber, the United States Mint’s 6th Chief Engraver from 1880 to 1917.
