Hop to the Phone for Australia's First Gold Kangaroo!

Australia has been striking modern Gold Kangaroos for years, but few people know the Gold Kangaroo goes all the way back to the beginning of Australian gold coins. In 1851 gold was discovered in Australia. But, there was no way to strike it into gold, so a group of London Entrepreneurs sailed off with a coin press to fill the void. By the time they got Down Under, it was no longer profitable for them to strike coins. They struck just a handful of 1853 Gold Kangaroos at Port Phillip. The coins feature Australia's most famous marsupial standing tall.

Only a few of the original coins survived. One made its way to the U.S. Mint's coin collection, and later to the Smithsonian Institution® in Washington D.C. Because the original Gold Kangaroo is so popular, the Smithsonian Institution wanted collectors to be able to own an authorized edition of the coin in their collection. And, what mint better to strike it than the world-renowned Perth Mint in Australia? The master engravers and minters at Perth recreated the 1853 Port Phillip Gold Kangaroo in one ounce of 99.99% gold and in stunning deeply mirrored and frosted proof. It features a standing kangaroo and the 1853 date on the obverse.

Each Gold Kangaroo is graded perfect Proof-70 (PF70) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), is sealed in a protective acrylic holder and housed in a spectacular presentation case. Hop to the phone right now to claim yours!
