Honoring 225 Years of U.S. Lawmen

It was President George Washington who established the United States Marshal Agency in 1789. Since its inception, the federal service has seen more than 200 marshals and deputies killed in the line of duty. The first was Robert Forsyth, shot and killed by two brothers when he tried to serve court papers in 1794. Heroes of real life from fact and fiction, the U.S. Marshalls are the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement organization. So, in 2015, to pay tribute to the 225th Anniversary of this important group of lawmen — and women — the U.S. Mint released a series of U.S. Marshall Commemoratives, including the rip roarin’ silver dollar you see here!

A Dynamic Image of a Grizzled lawman

Struck in 25.73 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver, the coin’s bold, detailed design features Old West U.S. marshal holding a wanted poster on the reverse. His handlebar moustache and Stetson hat epitomize the image of the tough-as-nails lawman tracking down killers and bank robbers from Dodge City to San Francisco and everywhere in between. The coin’s obverse shows the six-pointed U.S. Marshall service star over a silhouette of deputies on horseback. For fans of the Old West, this coin is a real treat! Making the coin all the more impressive is its proof condition. Expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes, this beautiful coin features beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields.
