To celebrate the American spirit of innovation, the United States Mint launched a new one-dollar coin series that as captured the fancy of coin collectors everywhere!

The series was kicked off in 2018 with a single coin paying tribute to the first U.S. patent. Beginning in 2019, The Mint began releasing four, one-year-only Innovation Dollars each year bearing different reverses. The coins in the multi-year series are being designed and minted to honor significant American innovation and pioneering efforts of individuals or groups in each of the 50 States, District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. It will conclude in 2032.

All Four Releases From 2023 In ONE Set!

Here’s your chance to get all four releases from 2023 struck by the San Francisco Mint in fabulous Reverse Proof condition! The opposite of a regular Proof that features frosted details rising over mirror-like fields, a Reverse Proof features mirror-like details rising over frosted fields. The Poof coins in the four-piece set are:

• OHIO honors the Underground Railroad. It depicts two strong hands grasped together, the upper arm pulling the lower arm upward, representing the support and strength of the Underground Railroad. A chain fastened to a rustic shackle around the lower arm’s wrist snaps and fragments, alluding to the hope of freedom.
• LOUISIANA celebrates the World War II-era Higgins Boat as it would have been deployed during D-Day and other amphibious landings. Officially called the Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP), it was invented by Andrew Higgins, a New Orleans-based boat builder and inventor.
• INDIANA features a series of vehicles that showcase Indiana innovations from yesterday and today. From top to bottom, the design includes an early style gas automobile, a representation of classic car production, and a recent model of an Indy style race car.
• MISSISSIPPI honors the first human lung transplantation performed June 11, 1963 at the University Hospital, Jackson, Mississippi by James Hardy and his team. The coin features a pair of human lungs in the background, while a surgical assistant passes forceps to the surgeon during the first lung transplant surgery.

All the coins in the series will share a common obverse design that features the Statue of Liberty along with a small privy mark of a stylized gear, representing industry and innovation. In addition, each coin issued in 2023 will feature the incused edge inscriptions: “2023,” “S” mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
