Extremely difficult to produce and rarely seen, the obverse design of these 2024 American Bison Dollar Proofs features both Ultra-High Relief (UHR) and Super Incuse strikes together as part of the same spectacular design! Celebrating an American icon, the top half of the obverse features a highly detailed walking Bison struck in Ultra-High Relief, while the bottom half, showing a pond featuring the Bison’s shadow, is produced with a Super Incuse strike method.
The Beth Zaiken Obverse
Her obverse design features a beautiful, Ultra-High Relief American Bison at the top walking near a pond highlighted by an outline of the Bison’s shadow in Super Incuse. Also included is a ring of 14 stars surrounding the image, and the date. The result is impressive Ultra-High Relief/Super Incuse height differences between the two strike methods. This combination of UHR and Super Incuse on the same side of the coin is EXTREMELY difficult to produce.
Each coin’s reverse includes the official crest of the Mesa Grande Sovereign Nation along with the coin’s denomination and specifications.

Frosty Proof Surfaces
Each coin features spectacular proof surfaces that include frosted high points (especially within the Bison design) and brightly mirrored fields. The inclusion of the UHR and incuse surfaces enhance the finish even more given the way the light reflects off of them.
Why Proofs Offer Better Quality and a Higher Degree of Scarcity
Proofs like these are struck to a much higher standard of beauty, quality, and craftsmanship than circulated and uncirculated coins. Proof planchets (blanks) are specially treated, hand-polished, and cleaned to ensure high-quality strikes, then fed into presses fitted with specially polished dies and struck at least twice, unlike regular coins which are struck only once. The extra strikes give proofs a glamorous shine and make intricate, razor-sharp details of the design pop against polished, mirror-like fields. While regular coins are struck on high-speed presses by the thousands, proofs are individually struck by highly skilled artisans focused on creating masterpieces.

With proofs and coins, quality is measured by grades on a 70-point scale, with a grade of 70 representing absolute perfection, even under magnification. That’s what you have here, the best of the best, certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as having a flawless Proof-70 (PF70) grade. Not only that, NGC also certified these proofs as Ultra Cameo (UC), a designation given to coins that possess an intense frosted finish on both sides, with highly polished fields accenting the raised elements.

Each coin has also been NGC-certified with a First Day of Issue (FDI) designation—which means these coins have been purchased within one day of the first day of release from the mint. FDI coins are sought-after because they are fresh and sharp, minted using new dies, and because there are so few of them compared to the overall population.
