Key Date Eisenhower Dollars!
The Eisenhower Dollar was America’s last large-sized dollar coin struck for circulation, as well as the last circulating dollar series with silver in its composition. It also had a relatively short lifespan, being minted for just eight years from 1971 to 1978. But after striking 168 million Ike Dollars in 1972, the United States Mint did not to strike ANY “Ikes” for circulation in 1973—not one! Instead, the coin was issued only as part of the annual Mint Set and to collectors at a slight premium. Here you can secure both the Uncirculated and Proof versions of the coin struck at the famed San Francisco Mint! Just 1,013,646 Ike Proof coins were in struck in 40% silver by San Franciso in 1973 and only 1,883,140 Uncirculated 40% silver Ike dollars were struck in Frisco that year.
A Stirring Tribute To American Greatness
The vivid memories of this big dollar are one of the reasons many people started collecting coins in the first place. On the obverse is the bust of Dwight David Eisenhower—the nation’s 34th President and a United States Army Five-Star General who served as the Supreme Allied Commander of Allied Forces in Europe during World War II. The coin’s reverse is the same design as that from the insignia of the Apollo 11 mission that landed the first men on the moon. These two designs together pay tribute to one of America’s greatest presidents and one of the country’s greatest achievements all on one coin!
