Allies vs. the Axis—America’s involvement in World War II lasted from 1941 to 1945 and featured huge roles from President Franklin D. Roosevelt, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, General Douglas MacArthur, Admiral Chester Nimitz, General Omar Bradley, and a host of leaders who helped the Allies prevail. The coins in this two-piece set, issued in 1993 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of America’s involvement in World War II, consists of two copper-nickel coins—one Uncirculated and the other with a Proof finish.

Struck with dual dates of 1991 and 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of the war, the obverse of each coin depicts the faces of a solider, sailor, and airman looking upwards while a B-17 bomber flies overhead with a “V” for victory in the background. The reverse depicts a battle scene from the Pacific Islands. Each set also comes with a genuine 10 Sen Japanese note printed in 1945 for the Allies in their occupation of Japan.
