Two Judean Coins From The Time Of Paul The Apostle

Here you have two Bronze Prutah coins from the biblical world—both minted under the authority of Rome by procurators overseeing Judea. One is from Antonius Felix, the 4th Roman procurator of Judea and the other is from Porcius Festus, Judea's 5th Roman procurator. Both of these procurators served under notable Roman Emperors: Claudius and Nero. Their real claim to fame, however, comes from their interactions with Paul the Apostle, the most important person after Jesus in the history of Christianity.

Paul And The Procurators Of Judea

Ancient historians noted that Antonius Felix spoke with Paul on several occasions. These discussions were not of a religious nature, however, as Felix was actually trying to solicit a bribe from the Apostle, a request that Paul didn't succumb to. As a result, Felix had Paul, arrested and when he was succeeded as procurator, he left the religious leader imprisoned as a favor to the Jews. Paul had his final hearing in Judea before Porcius Festus. At this time, many Jews were clamoring for Paul's execution. Festus, who was loathe to submit to the whims of the Jewish mobs, instead had Paul shipped off to Rome where he figured an audience with Emperor Nero would finish the matter once and for all. Paul was, after all, a Roman citizen at that time. Unfortunately for Paul, by the time he arrived in Rome, Nero was in full persecution mode and had the famous Christian apostle beheaded.

Coins That Combine Roman History With Biblical Significance

The view Roman-appointed procurators had of their Jewish subjects generally ranged from indifference to open hostility. With that in mind it's somewhat surprising that despite their poor attitude towards the Jews that the designs on these Bronze Prutahs abided by the strict interpretation of the Commandment against graven images, instead featuring designs that were probably not objectionable to the citizenry.

The ancient Bonze Prutahs available here come beautifully housed in a clear presentation box with a red lining. They will be accompanied by a fact-filled storycard that includes information about Paul the Apostle and how these coins related to his life. These ancient coins are perfect for collectors of Roman history and Biblical artifacts. Nearly 2,000 years old, coins like these are scarce and hard to find. Don't wait to add this interesting set to your collection. Availability is limited, however, so secure yours now!
