When the Eisenhower Dollar was first introduced, it featured a stunning reverse inspired by the Apollo 11 mission patch – a American Bald Eagle landing on the surface of the moon. But in 1976, that design was changed to pay tribute to the nation’s Bicentennial. Instead of the majestic eagle, the design featured the Liberty Bell on the reverse. The moon was still there, though, tucked behind the bell. What also set this coin apart was the dual dates of 1776 and 1976 – something that had never been done before on a U.S. circulating coin!

This three-coin set brings together all three mint marks – the standard uncirculated versions from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, and the shining Proof version from the San Francisco Mint – a coin that was only available in official Proof Sets and the hardest to find of the three versions.

It’s been 40 years since the last Ike Dollars rolled off the presses at the U.S. Mint. The last of the large-sized 38.1 mm circulating dollar coins, many Ike Dollars struck from 1971-1978 can command high prices. Finding one or two of these beauties todays is tough enough let alone a complete 1976 Bicentennial mint mark set.
