Morgan Silver Dollars From The First Three Years Of Issue, Three Mints
This set consists of three Morgan Silver Dollars representing the first three years the Morgan was issued, each from a different mint — a first-year 1878-S Morgan struck at the San Francisco Mint, a second-year 1879-O Morgan struck at the New Orleans Mint, and a third-year 1880-P Morgan struck at the “Moth Mint” in Philadelphia.
The Most Popular And Collected Silver Dollar Of All Time
The Morgan is arguably the most popular — and most collected — silver dollar of all time. The reasons for this are many. Possibly because of its iconic design, and possibly due to its reputation as the silver dollar that helped build the Wild West. According to numismatists, as few as 15% of all Morgans are estimated to exist today in any condition. And that number is likely smaller for Morgan’s in Extremely Fine (XF) condition like these available here. Coins in this grade were circulated but retain much of their mint luster and detailing. Limited availability so act quickly.
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar — so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan – has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921. Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings.
- STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – Morgan Silver Dollars were struck by the U.S. Mint in 90% fine silver from the famous Comstock Lode. It’s also a big coin measuring 38.1 mm in diameter.
- LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLAR – Morgans were $1 legal tender and struck during the heyday of America’s Wild West era where coins were overwhelmingly preferred over paper currency.
- EXTREMELY FINE CONDITION – Your Morgan Silver Dollars will come in nice Extremely Fine (XF) condition.
- THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence — and fewer still remain in Uncirculated condition!
