Barber Half Dollars From New Orleans
More than a century ago, the half dollar that lined people's pockets was the Barber Half Dollar. Struck from 1892 to 1915, the 90% silver Barber Half Dollar is a classic American design. Featuring Liberty with a triple headdress consisting of a cap, a laurel wreath, and a tiny coronet inscribed with her name, the Barber Half Dollar gains its name from designer Charles E. Barber, the United States Mint's 6th Chief Engraver from 1880 to 1917. Barber is one of the most famous and prolific coin designers in U.S. Mint history, having designed a full range of circulating coinage in his day.
