A Godless Era Of Pocket Change
All of today’s coins and bank notes feature the motto “In God We Trust,” but at one time, the motto was not included in the designs. It wasn’t until the Civil War, more than 150 years ago, when Congress mandated that “In God We Trust” had to appear on the nation’s money. Not all coins and bank notes were quick to adopt the motto, and this collection brings together coins from the last series, from one cent to quarter, that did not feature the motto. The coins in your four-piece set include:
- Indian Head Cent, minted in bronze from 1864-1909
- Buffalo Nickel, minted from 1913-1938
- Barber Dime, minted from 1892-191
- Seated Liberty Quarter, minted from 1840-1873, with the “In God We Trust” motto first appearing in 1866. The coin you’ll receive will be dated between 1852-and 1863.
The grade range of coins in this set is from Good to Extremely Fine (G–XF) condition and the entire set will come housed in a 3" x 5" holder. And, as an added bonus, your set will be accompanied by a 1935 $1 Silver Certificate that does not have a motto. This vintage note will come in Very Fine (VF) condition.
