Here Are The 2021 Type 2 Silver Eagles Type Sets You’ve Been Looking For

Even people that don’t call themselves collectors are aware that 2021 was a huge, historic year in the history of the American Silver Eagle, the most popular, most-purchased coin on the planet. That’s because, in honor of the 35th anniversary, the coin received a design change for the first time since its introduction in 1986. The original reverse design, the Heraldic Eagle by 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint John Mercanti, was replaced by the eagle landing reverse design created by artist Emily Damstra and sculpted by former U.S. Mint Engraver Michael Gaudioso.

Demand High For Type 2 Silver Eagles

Complications related to the Covid-19 pandemic led the U.S. Mint to release the new design halfway through 2021—instead of at the beginning of the year which has been customary—marking the first time two different Silver Eagle designs were released in the same year. To make identification easier for collectors, the mint referred to the original design as Type 1, and the new design as Type 2. Demand was high for both 2021 versions of these coins struck in 99.9% fine silver.

Flawless Silver Eagles From Among The First Issued

What you have here is a four-piece set of the Type 2 Silver Eagles you want in your collection—a Mint State Silver Eagle, a West Point Proof Silver Eagle, a San Francisco Proof Silver Eagle, and a Burnished Silver Eagle, which is struck at the West Point Mint and has a smooth matte-like finish. The coins come graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as being in perfect Mint State-70 (MS70) or Proof-70 (PF70), distinctions that mean your perfectly-graded coins have ZERO imperfections—showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended. In addition, NGC has certified that each Silver Eagle is a First Day of Issue (FDI) coin, a designation that means they were received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository by the release date or on the business day within 24 hours of the official release date.

Signed By The Coin’s Sculptor

As a final touch, each coin has been sonically sealed in a museum quality holder with a black display core and a label personally signed by the Type 2 design sculptor Michael Gaudioso. Gaudioso joined the Mint’s sculpting-engraving department in 2009 and has been involved in dozens of coin and medal programs, including the 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Program, the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, 2018 World War I Centennial Silver Medals, the First Spouse Coin & Medals, and Presidential $1 Coins.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • WEINMAN’S CLASSIC WALKING LIBERTY . . .– Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design first made its debut on the 1916 half dollar, lasting three decades before bowing out in 1947. In 1986, this iconic image was reborn for the Silver Eagle with her exquisitely detailed beauty remaining on the coin ever since. Weinman’s initials appear for the first time directly under the “In God We Trust” motto on the coin’s obverse.
  • . . . PAIRED FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH EMILY DAMSTRA’S ALIGHTING EAGLE! – This coin’s full bodied Bald Eagle coming in for a landing was created by designer Emily Damstra, replacing the Heraldic eagle design created in 1986 by John Mercanti.
  • TYPE 2 DESIGNATION – This coin was given the Type-2 pedigree to note that it bears the new Damstra Eagle Reverse design.
  • EXPERTLY STRUCK IN HIGHLY PURE SILVER – The craftspeople of the U.S. Mint are known around the world for their skill and attention to detail. It’s this talent that transforms each one-ounce planchet of 99.9% fine silver into a beautiful piece of numismatic art measuring 40.6 mm in diameter.
  • UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – Each 2021 Silver Eagle bullion coin is one dollar United States of America legal tender, as seen on the coin’s reverse.
  • ADDED SECURITY FEATURE – For the first time, the Mint has instituted an enhanced security feature consisting of an anti-counterfeit measure that incorporates small gaps within the coin’s reeded edge.
  • PERFECT CONDITION – Your 2021 Type 2 Silver Eagles have been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as being in perfect Mint State-70 (MS70) or Proof-70 (PF70) condition.
  • KEY FIRST DAY OF ISSUE CERTIFICATION – NGC has certified that your Silver Eagles are First Day of Issue (FDI) coins, independent authentication that your coins were released by the mint during the premier day of the series’ issue.
  • SIGNED BY THE COIN’S SCULPTOR – Your coins will be sonically sealed in acrylic holders with black display cores and encapsulated with labels personally signed by the Type 2 design sculptor Michael Gaudioso.
