Last Seven Years Of O-Mint Morgan Silver Dollars

The New Orleans Mint has a fabled history in that it was governed by three different governments during its existence: The United States, the State of Louisiana, and the Confederate States of America. In all, the New Orleans Mint struck Morgans for 26 of the28 years it was minted, and this seven-piece set—featuring the consecutive dates of 1898-O, 1899-O, 1900-O, 1901-O, 1902-O, 1903-O, and 1904-O—represents 27% of the O-Mint Morgans in the series!

Morgan Silver Dollars Are Hot!

Morgan Silver Dollars, the coins that helped build the Wild West, remain scorching HOT in the current coin market—especially following the 100th anniversary in 2021 of the coin’s final minting in 1921. Coin experts estimate that as few as 15% of all the Morgans ever minted, in ANY condition, still exist today. Which makes these sets graded in beautiful Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition even more desirable.

Secrets Of The U.S. Treasury Hoard Revealed

One of the highlights of this Set is the 1903-O Morgan because, prior to the great Treasury Hoard release of the 1960s, the 1903-O Morgan was the most coveted coin in the series. In fact, in the 1961 Red Book the coin was listed with a value of $500—the same as the scarce 1889-CC! Of the 4.45 million Morgans struck in 1903 at the New Orleans Mint, none were ever found. People were offering as much as $1,500 to obtain one. The reason no one found one is because nearly the entire mintage was sitting in the Treasury vaults, never having entered circulation! It wasn’t until the famous Treasury Hoard was released in the 1960s those coins finally saw the light of day!

This set comes housed in a deluxe presentation case, and includes a storybook on the Morgan Silver Dollar, a storycard for the New Orleans Mint, a genuine 1840s to 1870s New Orleans newspaper, and an 1875–1876 $5 State of Louisiana baby bond note. These sets are extremely limited with only two currently resting in our vaults, so you need to act fast if you want to be one of the lucky collectors to snag one!!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar—so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan—has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921. Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings.
  • FAMOUS “O” MINT MARK – The New Orleans Mint is famous for being the only American mint to be controlled by three different governing bodies during its lifetime. It was first governed by the United States of America, then the State of Louisiana when it seceded from the Union prior to the Civil War, and finally the Confederate States of America following the onset of the war. The United States regained possession in 1862. The famous “O” mint mark on the reverse of these coins is a living reminder of this historic mint’s epic history.
  • STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – Morgan Silver Dollars were struck in 26.73 grams of 90% silver and measure 38.1 mm in diameter.
  • LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLARS – These coins were $1 legal tender in the United States.
  • HIGH-GRADE CONDITION – These coins will all come in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence.
